Deena Marie King
Deena Marie King is a contemporary artist whose work explores the layered nature of human experience—memory, inherited patterns, and the unseen forces that shape identity. With a background in graphic design, she is drawn to structure, balance, and visual rhythm, building compositions through a process of layering, scraping, and reworking surfaces. Her paintings exist in the tension between order and disruption, where texture, imperfection, and spontaneity become essential elements of expression.
Raised in a small town in western Kansas, King’s perspective is influenced by her rural surroundings and strong cultural roots. She earned a BFA in Graphic Design with an emphasis in painting from Fort Hays State University and built a successful career in design before returning her focus to fine art. After relocating to Sarasota, Florida, she founded Define Art Gallery and Studio before choosing to dedicate herself fully to her studio practice. Her work continues to evolve through exploration, reflecting a deeply personal yet universally resonant approach to abstraction.
