Depth in Blue

Juan B Plaza

Juan B. Plaza is a multidisciplinary artist who began sketching and drawing in the early 2000s, first creating an avatar to represent his artistic voice. Trained as an engineer, commercial pilot, and professional writer, Plaza draws inspiration from these diverse disciplines to guide his creative practice. He was selected as Artist of the Month at the Orlando Museum of Art in 2006 and has exhibited widely in South Florida galleries for over two decades. In 2010, he transitioned from small china-ink drawings on paper to large-format works in pursuit of what he calls “the wow factor.”

Plaza’s style is geometric, abstract, and reasoned, emphasizing solid colors and structured forms that tell a story. Inspired by mathematics, engineering principles, and nature-based mathematical models, his compositions reveal shifting perspectives as viewers move across the surface. Working with wood, acrylic paint, and artist resin, Plaza creates vibrant, dimensional works where bold color fields divide and unite, offering layered visual experiences rooted in logic, movement, and imaginative design.
