About the Artist
Deborah S. Brookes is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans clay, glass mosaic, tile, seashell embellishment, and stone carving. Her creative journey has been guided by curiosity, craftsmanship, and a lifelong passion for working with her hands. Originally from Pennsylvania, Brookes began her career as a successful hairstylist while studying at the Baum School of Art, where she developed a sculptural approach to clay. Continued studies at The Ringling School of Art and Saddleback College expanded her artistic practice, introducing new mediums that would shape her evolving creative voice.
After relocating to South Florida, Brookes discovered the artistic potential of seashells gathered during a beach renourishment project, inspiring the creation of her Beachcomber Art collection and the opening of her Delray Beach studio. Following her retirement from that venture, she turned her attention to stone carving, embracing the dialogue between artist and material. Allowing each stone to guide its own transformation, Brookes creates works that celebrate nature, texture, and form. Her art reflects a lifetime of exploration, reinvention, and enduring creative expression.
