About the Artist
Michael Goldstein is a contemporary sculptor working primarily in forged and welded steel. His practice explores the tension between strength and movement, permanence and transformation, shaping rigid industrial material into organic forms that appear fluid, suspended, or in motion. Drawing inspiration from blacksmithing, music, natural forces, and abstract geometry, he creates sculptures that challenge perceptions of weight and balance.
Central to Goldstein’s work is the visible presence of the making process. Hammer marks, exposed welds, and forged textures preserve the evidence of heat, pressure, and human touch, making craftsmanship an essential part of each sculpture’s expression. His forms evoke the movement of ocean waves, the gradual erosion of geological formations, and the improvisational rhythms of music.
Through works such as Suspended Logic, Molten Silence, and Steel Tide, Goldstein explores resilience, tension, and energy. His sculptures bring together the raw character of steel and a refined sense of motion, inviting viewers to experience the material’s expressive possibilities through balance, texture, and form.
